Ghanaian actress and socialite Efia Odo has criticised what she describes as the growing practice of passing off expensive but ordinary products as luxury items in Accra.

According to her, the high price tag attached to a product does not automatically make it luxurious or premium.

In a post shared on X on September 10, 2026, Efia Odo argued that Accra is filled with products she considers basic and overrated but are sold at exorbitant prices under the label of “luxury.”

“Baby, expensive does not mean luxury,” she wrote.

She continued, "Accra is full of basic, overrated products with audacious price tags, sold as “luxury” by people who confuse money with taste."

She further criticised individuals who, in her view, equate wealth with good taste and use high prices to create the impression that a product is of superior quality.

“Slapping a high price on mediocrity doesn’t make it premium; it just makes it overpriced and I’m sick of it!” she added.
