Musician Fancy Gadam has disclosed that he had no idea Sarkodie recorded a verse on their hit collaboration, Total Cheat, until after his own parts had already been completed.

Speaking in an interview with MC Portfolio, Fancy Gadam said he neither met Sarkodie in the studio nor had any involvement in writing or coaching the rapper’s Dagbani lyrics, despite many fans praising Sarkodie’s delivery in the northern Ghanaian language.

When asked who coached Sarkodie because he rapped in Dagbani at a point in the song, Fancy Gadam admitted he was equally surprised by the final result.

“It was so amazing. My team and I were shouting,” he said.

He added, “I was not there. I didn’t meet him in the studio. I didn’t know anything about the lyrics.”

He explained that after recording the chorus and his first verse, he sent the song to Sarkodie to record his part.

According to him, his manager later informed him that there was an empty section on the song that required a second verse from him.

“I recorded the chorus and my first verse, then I sent it to him. When he was done with his verse, my manager said there was a space that I needed to fill, so I should come and do a second verse,” he recounted.

Fancy Gadam revealed that while recording the additional verse, he discovered producer Possigee was fluent in Dagbani, something he had not known before.

“I didn’t know Possigee was a Dagomba man until I went to the studio and he was speaking Dagbani to me, and I was surprised. And Possigee is Sarkodie’s producer, so I am sure he taught him,” he said.

He added that Sarkodie’s use of his popular slogan, “Tiku Zami, Tibi dwara,” which translates as “We stand firm, we don’t shake,” resonated strongly with people in Tamale and contributed to the excitement surrounding the song.
