Gospel musician Celestine Donkor has jokingly hit back at critics questioning the title of her latest song, Nyame Sumsum, insisting that she will not allow herself to be bullied because she is an Ewe.

In a video shared on social media on September 7, 2026, the gospel musician addressed concerns raised by some people over her use of the Twi phrase “Nyame Sumsum.”

According to her, some critics argued that the title was incorrect because “sumsum” means “soul", adding that she should have used “Nyame Honhom” instead.

“Because I’m an Ewe, the Akans want to bully me, but I want you all to know that my sister-in-law is an Akan,” she teasingly said.

Explaining the controversy surrounding the title of her new song, Celestine Donkor said she had been told that using “Nyame Sumsum” was inappropriate and questioned why she was being singled out among other artistes who had used it.

“I’ve released a new song and the title is ‘Nyame Sumsum’. People are telling me that it’s not right to say Nyame Sumsum because sumsum means soul. I was supposed to say Nyame Homhom. You guys should make me understand: what’s wrong with it?” she asked.

“I remember that Diana Asamoah made a song and she used Sumsum, but because she’s an Akan, you guys didn’t say anything. You people can’t bully me. I’m an Ewe, but I can speak Twi,” she added.
