Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Abeiku Santana, has stated that he would choose to remain in Ghana even if offered a $100,000 monthly salary to live in the United States or the United Kingdom.

In a video shared on X and sighted by GhanaWeb on September 6, 2026, Santana argued that Ghana presents more opportunities than the US, but many Ghanaians fail to take advantage of them.

"If you gave me a $100,000 monthly salary to live in America or to live in the UK, I'll choose Ghana. Ask me why.

"There are more opportunities in Ghana than in America. We see the opportunity, but we are not able to seize the opportunity," he said.

Abeiku Santana calls for African-led tourism storytelling

Abeiku Santana also stated that, unlike Ghanaians, foreigners take advantage of the same opportunities that Ghanaians complain about and make a living from them.

He further explained that while Ghanaians often complain about challenges, foreigners and expatriates seize those same opportunities and make a living from them.

"Then foreigners or expatriates come; they see it, and they seize it. We see the opportunity, but we lament. We always complain.

"Anything that people are complaining about is an opportunity. Opportunity is work. Opportunity is problems. But we don't like problems," he added.
