Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has expressed frustration over the government’s failure to pay him for promotional work he undertook for the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

According to the musician, he and his team supported the national team financially and also carried out promotional activities for the Black Stars, but he is yet to receive payment for the work.

Speaking in an interview on GhOne TV on August 28, 2026, Shatta Wale also criticised individuals who allegedly use public funds to acquire properties abroad and relocate their families.

“When they get GH₵50 million, they want to go and buy a house in Canada. Some of them want to buy a house in America, take their children and fly them abroad, but that money is for the citizens,” he said.

Shatta Wale shared that he remains pleased with President John Mahama and his ideology, but admitted that he currently does not have a favourite-performing minister or presidential appointee.

“I’m happy with President Mahama and his ideology. So far, I don’t have any best-performing minister or appointees of the president. I can tell you why I don’t have any,” he stated.

He then cited his experience with the government’s World Cup-related activities as one of the reasons for his dissatisfaction.

“With the World Cup that we did, you know we had to promote everything. We were supposed to be paid, but up till now, I’ve not been paid,” Shatta Wale alleged.

The artiste revealed that his Hotwav team also made a significant financial contribution to support the Black Stars.

“My Hotwav team and I donated some money to the Black Stars. We gave them $100,000 and that one, it’s my office who had to go and deal with that,” he said.

Shatta Wale further claimed that his team undertook promotional activities, including postings and advertisements for the national team, for which he says the government owes him about GH₵5 million.

“For the postings and ads that we did for Black Stars, I think they owe me about GH₵5 million and they’ve not paid even a penny,” he shared.

He expressed disappointment over his alleged inability to reach some officials responsible for the matter.

“You would call the minister and the deputy, but they won’t pick the call. This is total disrespect in this country and that’s why some of us are pissed,” he noted.

Shatta Wale said he was unhappy with what he described as a culture where government officials only contact artistes when they need their services.

“I’m not happy with all of them. They’re in their offices and they feel when they need you, that’s when they will reach out,” he added.

He consequently warned ministers and other government officials that he would no longer offer his services without appropriate compensation.

“Any minister who calls me for something, just know that I will charge you,” Shatta Wale declared.

“I love President John Dramani Mahama’s ideology but not his appointees. I’m still owed GH¢5 million by the Sports Ministry for my promotions during the World Cup.”
