Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has described her newly released album, Starrgirl, as the most authentic representation of who she is, saying the project reflects a newfound confidence and self-acceptance.

Speaking in an interview with ABC News Live, the award-winning musician said Starrgirl differs from her previous projects because it embraces her current identity rather than portraying who she aspired to become.

“It is the truest and rawest version of me right now,” she said.

According to Ayra Starr, the album serves as a mirror of her present self, explaining that while her earlier albums focused on who she wanted to be, Starrgirl celebrates who she already is.

“My other albums are like I want to be, I want to be, I want to be. Starrgirl is kind of accepting who I already am and enjoying it,” she said.

The singer added that listeners will hear her growth throughout the album, from the music itself to her vocal delivery and the different characters she explores.

“You can hear it in the music, even in the cadences, and me just having fun and putting on different characters and allowing myself to experience the music,” she added.
