Veteran actress Madam Selassie Ibrahim has called for a fundamental change in the way Ghana’s movie industry approaches content creation, arguing that a shift in mindset is necessary to revive the struggling sector.

Speaking on Angel FM, Kumasi, Madam Selassie Ibrahim said the industry could begin the transformation through education and improved scriptwriting, insisting that Ghana has the talent needed to compete if the right creative structures are put in place.

“This can be done through education and scriptwriting. Nigerians are doing it, so why can’t we do it?” she asked.

According to her, the continued reliance on approaches that have failed to produce the desired results has created a sense of resignation among some industry players.

“It seems we have given up on ourselves because we are doing it and it is not working,” she stated.

Madam Selassie Ibrahim warned that failing to rethink the industry’s approach to content creation could have consequences beyond the decline of the movie sector, particularly for talented young people seeking opportunities in the creative industry.

"There are people with better talent than us. If we do that, we will suppress their talent and destroy it," she said
