Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has disclosed that Ghana recorded an estimated $4.34 billion in tourism receipts from 1,303,962 international tourist arrivals in 2025.

The figure shows a rise in international arrivals compared with the 1,288,804 visitors recorded in 2024, indicating continued expansion in Ghana’s tourism sector.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on August 10, 2026, Dzifa Gomashie highlighted key achievements and developments in the tourism, culture and creative arts sectors since taking office.

She disclosed that domestic tourism also grew by seven per cent, with visits increasing from 1.68 million in 2024 to 1.79 million in 2025.

The Minister said Ghana’s 10 most visited tourist attractions recorded a combined 1,377,588 visits in 2025, representing about 27 per cent of total domestic visits to tourism sites across the country.

The attractions included the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, Kakum National Park, Bunso Arboretum Eco Park, Cape Coast Castle, Manhyia Palace, Kumasi Zoo, Accra Zoo, Elmina Castle, Shai Hills Resource Reserve and the Aburi-Botanical Garden.

Dzifa Gomashie noted that only three of the top 10 attractions are directly managed by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, with the remaining sites under the supervision of other institutions.

She said the strong visitor numbers demonstrate the significance of these attractions to both domestic and international tourism and reinforce the need for continued investment in their development, preservation and management.

The Minister also pointed out initiatives aimed at preserving and repositioning key tourism assets.

These include the reopening of the Nationalism Park following the resolution of long-standing power challenges, the completion of the Tano Boase Sacred Grove Project, and improved governance and management structures at heritage sites such as the Anomabu Garden of Return and Tetteh Quarshie Cocoa Farm.

In a bid to broaden tourism offerings and contribute to the Government’s 24-Hour Economy agenda, the Ministry introduced “Accra by Night”, a structured night tourism initiative aimed at extending tourism activities beyond the daytime and creating opportunities for restaurants, creatives, transport operators and small businesses.

On cultural development, Dzifa Gomashie announced that three additional standardised orthographies for Ghanaian languages are expected to be launched before the end of the year.

She said the initiative is aligned with the vision of President John Dramani Mahama and commitments contained in the Government’s manifesto.
