Veteran Ghanaian actress Grace Omaboe has expressed optimism that Ghana’s movie industry will recover despite the challenges that have contributed to its decline.

Speaking to GhanaWeb’s Patience Adu on the sidelines of the funeral of late actress Beverly Afaglo, Grace Omaboe said the industry’s struggles stem from several factors, including financial constraints and weak scriptwriting.

According to her, veteran actors continue to share their knowledge and experience with the younger generation of filmmakers, although not everyone is receptive to their advice.

“The near collapse of the Ghana movie industry is because of a whole lot of reasons, financially, scriptwriting and many other things. But it will rise again. We are speaking with them. Some of them don’t take our advice when we give it, but some producers listen, so we keep talking with them and we hope the industry will rise again,” she said.

Reflecting on the passing of Beverly Afaglo, Grace Omaboe described her death as heartbreaking and used the opportunity to raise awareness about the devastating impact of cancer.

She said no one expected the actress to pass away so soon because she was loved by many.

“This cancer disease is not a good thing. It hides in the body and causes a lot of harm. Nobody thought Beverly would leave us anytime soon. She was loved by everyone, so when we heard about her passing, we were deeply hurt,” she said.

The veteran actress also revealed that she had previously lost someone very close to her to cancer, making Beverly Afaglo’s passing even more painful.

“I have lost a very dear person to cancer, so I don’t even like to mention the name. But we leave everything to God. He took her and He will definitely keep her,” Grace Omaboe added.
