'Some of you have decided to be stupid' - Xandy Kamel fires back at body shamers

Ghanaian actress and filmmaker Xandy Kamel has criticised individuals who repeatedly body shame her on social media, saying she will not allow negative comments about her appearance to dictate how she presents herself.

In a video shared on social media, the actress said she had noticed that some people appeared to react negatively whenever she shared photos or videos showing her full body.

Xandy Kamel vowed to keep sharing full-body videos despite criticism from online trolls. She said she has realised that her body appears to trigger some social media users, but their reactions will not stop her from confidently expressing herself and embracing her appearance.

“I have come to the conclusion that most of you have decided to be stupid when it comes to me. Whenever you see my body, it triggers your sickness. If I post a video and you see my whole body, you start misbehaving in my comment section.

“I want you to also know that this is just the beginning. Now that I’ve noticed that my body triggers your sickness, every day, you guys will see my full body because this is me. I didn’t create myself,” she said.

Xandy Kamel further pointed out that her body, like every woman’s, can change naturally with age, stressing that she is proud of her appearance regardless of the opinions of others.

“Also, I’m a woman. There are lots of things on my body that will change as I age. You see my body? It is mine, and I am proud of it. Those of you speaking ill about it just goes to show how gullible and stupid you are,” she added.

Xandy Kamel has, over the years, been subjected to criticism and bullying on social media, particularly over her physical appearance.

Her experiences with online bullying and body shaming have also influenced her work as a filmmaker.

She recently featured Nigerian actors Uju Okoli and Ray Adeka in her latest film, Unseen Beauty, which explores the impact of internet bullying and body shaming, particularly against plus-sized women.

Speaking to Graphic Showbiz in 2025 about the motivation behind the film, Xandy Kamel said her personal experiences inspired her to tell a story that reflects the struggles faced by many women who are judged because of their appearance.

“I’ve lived this reality, being mocked, judged, and belittled just because of how I look. People assume that being plus-sized means you lack discipline or you’re lazy or you overeat. But that’s not always the case.

“There are so many young women silently struggling with conditions they can’t even talk about, and yet every time they post a photo or step outside, they are ridiculed. I want to tell a story that reflects that pain, but also the resilience and worth of every woman,” she said.
