If I could go back, I would have gone to school and married earlier – Obaapa Christy

Gospel musician Obaapa Christy has disclosed that if she had the opportunity to go back in time and change certain aspects of her life, she would have pursued formal education and also considered marriage at an earlier stage.

“What I would have changed is that I would have gone to school. The gift God has given me, combined with education, would have helped me achieve even greater things. Even without formal education, I am doing well, so having that knowledge as an addition would have made me achieve much more. Regardless of my age, I will still try to go to school because education is something I value,” she said.

In an interview on 3FM, Obaapa Christy said she also would’ve still chosen the path of a gospel musician if she were to relive her younger years.

She explained that when she reflects on her background and how God has used her ministry to uplift her and create opportunities for her, she cannot imagine choosing any other career path.

“I would still have chosen to become a gospel musician because, looking at where I came from and how God used my ministry to uplift me and create opportunities for me, I cannot think of anything better than spreading the gospel of the Lord. For the work of God, I would still have dedicated myself to it,” she said.

Touching on marriage and whether she would have chosen to marry earlier if she had another chance, Obaapa Christy said, “For marriage, I would’ve gotten married earlier if I had the opportunity,” she said.

She further disclosed that she is currently married and blessed with five children, two of whom are with her current partner while three are from her previous marriage.

Meanwhile, Obaapa Christy is preparing to host the 2026 edition of Royal Praise.

The event will feature performances from gospel artistes including Empress Gifty, Joyce Blessing, Uncle Ato, Celestine Donkor, Akesse Brempong and Kwaku Gyasi.

Royal Praise 2026 is scheduled to take place on August 9, 2026, at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).
