Ghanaian musician Dr Cryme has opened up about his love for caps, noting that counting his caps is like counting his blessings. He also revealed that he is preparing to launch his own cap brand.

Speaking in an interview with Kafui Dey, the rapper said wearing caps has been part of his identity since he was young. However, he only realised it had become his signature image during Ghana’s 'Kasahare' era, a period when Twi rap dominated the country’s music scene.

“I’ve been wearing it since I was young. I love caps,” he said.

Asked how many caps he owns, Dr Cryme said, "Counting them would be like counting my blessings. I have more than three figures.”

He added that his number of caps could exceed 100.

The musician explained that he has several suppliers but also enjoys shopping for caps himself, comparing the experience to how some people collect bags or shoes.

According to him, comfort is one of the most important factors when choosing a cap. He noted that a good cap should fit properly and allow adequate airflow to prevent discomfort.

Dr Cryme said he knows his exact cap size and advised against wearing caps that are too tight, explaining that they can trap heat, leave marks on the head and even contribute to dandruff over time.

The rapper also disclosed that he is working on launching his own cap brand, which will feature multiple colours and a distinctive logo while allowing room for creative designs.

“My caps are not all LA. It’s good to have your own brand but not limit yourself,” he said, adding that he enjoys wearing different brands because it gives him more styling options.

Giving fans a glimpse into his collection, Dr Cryme revealed that he has a dedicated closet for his caps at home, with shelves stretching from the floor to the ceiling. To maximise space, he said each shelf holds several caps stacked behind one another.

Despite owning an extensive collection, the musician said there is no colour he avoids. Instead, unusual colours often catch his attention.

“When I see a colour and think, ‘What kind of weird thing is this?’ I buy it,” he joked, adding that he is confident he can always find an outfit to match it.

He further disclosed that his collection includes everything from plain caps to colourful and uniquely designed pieces, saying he enjoys matching them with his outfits and footwear.
