Nigerian fashion designer and entrepreneur Veekee James has responded to critics questioning why her husband accompanies her to most public events.

Her response comes after a social media user asked whether her husband had ‘a life of his own,’ suggesting she had turned him into her ‘handbag.’

This came up after the couple was spotted at content creator Peller's wedding.

Reacting to the criticism, Veekee James, in a video shared on social media on August 2, 2026, dismissed the criticism, insisting that she and her husband intentionally choose to spend most of their time together.

"Yes, I've turned him into my handbag. My husband doesn't have a life of his own. His life is my life, the same way I don't have a life of my own. Both of us are like a padlock and key," she said.

The fashion designer stated that marriage, in her view, is about unity and sharing every aspect of life with one's spouse.

According to her, she sees no reason to keep her husband separate from her personal or professional life.

"When you marry your own, separate him from your life and keep him somewhere else. You don't know what marriage is. Everything I have is his, and everything he has is mine," she stated.

Veekee James further indicated that critics should expect to continue seeing the couple together at public events, stressing that their close bond is a deliberate choice.

"You've not seen anything yet because you will see my husband and me everywhere possible," she added.
