Popular Ghanaian pastor Timothy Bentum has urged Christians not to use their tithe for charitable acts.
Speaking in a sermon shared on his Instagram page, Bentum questioned the thinking that tithes should be used to care for the poor or pay medical bills instead of being given to the church.
"Why do you want to use God's 10% to go and look after a sick person? Where is your 90%? What happened to it? If it's not enough, is it God's 10% that you are going to use to help someone?" he asked.
According to the pastor, Christians have a responsibility to help those in need using the remaining 90% of their income, while honouring what he described as God's portion through tithing.

His remarks come amid discussions about the biblical relevance of tithing, with many pastors and Christians expressing differing views on whether the practice remains compulsory under the New Testament.
This conversation gained further attention after the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, apologised for a previous statement that Christians who fail to pay tithes may not make it to heaven.
Adeboye acknowledged that the comment was not supported by Scripture and apologised for making it.
