Musician Akwaboah has dismissed claims that his wife, Theresa Naa Akwaboah, does not take good care of him, describing their marriage as a happy one.

Speaking in an interview with ZionFelix, the singer and songwriter said he has been happily married for the past two years.

“We’ve been married for two years, and we dated for two years before that, so we’ve been together for four years. By God’s grace, everything is going well. My wife is a very good cook, so when people say I don’t eat well at home, I just wonder who told them that. I’m even happier now than I was before because everything is okay,” he noted.

Addressing how his family reacts to negative comments directed at his wife, Akwaboah disclosed that he prepared her for public scrutiny even before they got married, knowing that some people would criticise her simply because of his fame.

“Even before we got married, I kept telling her that the day I introduced her to the world, some people would hate her for no reason. She wouldn’t have done anything to them, but they would still have something negative to say,” he said.

He added that they have never allowed such comments to affect their relationship, explaining that they usually laugh them off together.

“Whenever people make such comments, she shows them to me, and we just laugh about them. So far, none of it has affected our marriage. We’ve never quarrelled or even thought about divorce because of what people say. We’re like best friends,” he added.

The Ghanaian singer also revisited his much-discussed advice that young people should save at least GH¢8,000 a month before getting married, stating that the comment was widely criticised by people who had not yet experienced the realities of marriage and family life.

According to him, once people get married and begin raising a family, they will realise that GH¢8,000 is not even enough to cover the monthly responsibilities that come with marriage, including providing food, buying diapers, supporting in-laws, and other household expenses.

“Everybody was quick to attack me because I mentioned GH¢8,000. The younger ones can say whatever they want because they are not married yet. But once you get married and start a family, you’ll realize that even GH¢8,000 isn’t enough. When you factor in diapers, food, supporting your in-laws, and all the other responsibilities, you’ll see that you spend far more than that in a single month,” he noted.
