Broadcaster and entertainment critic Nana Frimpong Ziega has suggested that the late founder of Kristo Asafo Mission, Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, may partly be responsible for the internal disagreements currently surrounding his family.
Speaking on UTV’s United Showbiz on August 1, 2026, Nana Frimpong Ziega argued that although Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka was already a respected and recognised figure, the public lifestyle of his daughter, Sarah Adwoa Safo, a politician, further projected his image and brought more attention to the Kantanka name.
“We cannot overlook Apostle Kwadwo Safo’s role in everything that is happening. In a way, he contributed to creating this mess. Although Apostle Kwadwo Safo was already famous and well known, Adwoa Safo’s lifestyle also became a form of publicity for him and further amplified his name,” he said.
Nana Frimpong Ziega explained that before the recent family issues surrounding Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka’s death, many people were more familiar with Sarah Adwoa Safo because of her public life than with some of his other children.

He noted that he only became aware of Israel Kwadwo Safo, popularly known as Akofena, after news of his relationship and child with actress Juliet Ibrahim became public, while he only learnt about some of the other children after the passing of the Kristo Asafo founder.
“I did not know Akofena until he had a child with Juliet Ibrahim. As for the other children, I only became aware of them after his passing. Whenever Adwoa Safo was mentioned, people immediately associated her with Apostle Kwadwo Safo,” he said.
According to the broadcaster, one of the decisions by Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka that may have contributed to tensions among the children was his public declaration that Akofena was his favourite and most loved child.
He explained that while a father has the right to choose a successor among his children, openly describing one child as his favourite, especially when the children are from different mothers, could create resentment and division.
“The moment Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka openly said Akofena was his favourite and most loved child was when the problems began. You have seven children, and among them, one male child may be chosen to succeed you, which is understandable. But declaring one child as your favourite, especially when they are from different mothers, is where the danger lies,” he added.
Nana Frimpong Ziega also sought to explain the circumstances surrounding Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka’s decision on succession, particularly regarding Akofena’s leadership role.
He referred to an old video recorded in 2020 in which the late spiritual leader announced that Akofena would take over leadership responsibilities because he had become weak and was unable to fully handle matters concerning the organisation.
However, Ziega explained that by 2024, Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka appeared to have regained his strength and may have decided to resume his responsibilities, which led to Akofena no longer occupying the leadership position.
He argued that the late Apostle did not adequately explain the reason behind the change, leading people to interpret the decision as a rejection of Akofena’s ability to lead.
Nana Frimpong Ziega said that because the transition was not properly communicated, many people misunderstood the situation and assumed Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka never wanted Akofena to succeed him.
Following the death of Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, disagreements have emerged among members of his family over issues relating to succession, leadership and arrangements for his burial.
