Afro-dancehall musician Stonebwoy has reacted to the cancellation of his longtime rival Shatta Wale’s ShattaFest UK concert following a stampede at the event venue in London.

In a post shared on his X page on August 1, 2026, Stonebwoy expressed sympathy for everyone affected by the unfortunate incident, describing it as heartbreaking for artistes, event organisers, promoters and fans who support the growth of Ghanaian music on the international stage.

“This is definitely not the kind of news any event organiser, artist, fan or promoter of the Ghana music agenda wants to hear. Our hearts go out to all those affected,” Stonebwoy wrote.

His comments came shortly after Shatta Wale’s management issued an official statement expressing sorrow over the incident and confirming that the event had been cancelled due to safety concerns.

ShattaFest UK, organised in collaboration with Ghana Party in the Park, was called off on August 1, 2026, after police halted the event at Copthall Playing Fields in London following a crowd crush outside the venue.

According to reports from the scene, security authorities intervened after the venue exceeded its approved capacity, resulting in severe overcrowding at one of the entrance points.

The congestion reportedly led to a stampede that left several attendees injured.

A police officer addressing the crowd announced that the event had been cancelled in the interest of public safety, explaining that the decision was taken because "quite a lot of people" had been injured during the incident.

Organisers initially informed patrons that the interruption was temporary, raising hopes that the event would resume. However, they later confirmed that the concert had been officially cancelled after assessing the situation in consultation with the relevant authorities.

In a statement released after the incident, Shatta Wale’s management said the difficult decision to cancel the event was made because the safety and well-being of attendees remained the highest priority.

“It is with a very heavy heart that we address the unfortunate events surrounding SHATTAFEST UK. Following reports of a serious incident outside the venue, the difficult decision was made to cancel the event. Nothing is more important than the safety and well-being of every single person who came to celebrate music, unity, and love,” the statement read.

The statement further noted, “Our hearts are with everyone who has been affected by this tragic situation. We are deeply saddened by the reports of injuries and the alleged loss of lives.

“While we await official confirmation from the relevant authorities regarding all the facts, our thoughts and prayers remain with the individuals involved, their families, their friends, and everyone impacted by this heartbreaking incident.”
