Afro-dancehall musician Stonebwoy has opened up about how his children influence his music and creative process, while also sharing some of the challenges that come with being a public figure.
Speaking in an interview on BBC Africa, Stonebwoy disclosed that some of his music videos make his children uncomfortable because they feature female models around him.
“My daughter will watch a music video and tell her mom, ‘Why is this girl around my dad?’ She actually hates that,” he said.
The musician explained that his children have become familiar with his work at a very young age because they often spend time with him in the studio.
According to him, they pay close attention to his creative process and sometimes even contribute ideas.

“The time I recorded Silent Samurai in the studio, they were there, and they’ve quickly adapted to what their dad does, even at the ages of seven and eight. They influenced the things that I say,” he noted.
Stonebwoy further disclosed that his son once surprised him while he was recording in the studio.
He recalled that his son listened carefully to one of the lines in the song and suggested a slight change that he believed would make it sound better.
According to Stonebwoy, the exposure his son has had to music from such a young age has shaped his ambitions. He said that whenever his son is asked what he wants to become in the future, he confidently says he wants to be a musician, just like his father.
Stonebwoy also expressed concern over what he described as the disregard for celebrities’ privacy. He lamented that many people now pull out their phones to record or take photos without first seeking permission.
“One thing that actually annoys me is the invasion of privacy becoming a normal part of society. Anybody who sees you anywhere pulls out a phone first. There’s no, ‘Hello, can I please take a picture?’ You get that from some people.
“The excuse is that it’s out of excitement, but we are humans as well. When the tables turn, nobody is doing that to them. They don’t even realize they’re enjoying their privacy, but for us…” he noted.
