Ghanaian dancehall musician Shatta Wale has spoken on the long-running controversy surrounding his relationship with his mother, Madam Elsie Evelyn Avemegah.

He has claimed that the viral video in which she complained of neglect and abandonment was mere acting.

Speaking on the Honest Bunch podcast based in Lagos, Nigeria, the musician said his mother's public complaints were driven not by genuine hardship but by her desire to take sides in the long-standing conflict between her and his father.

"She has a problem with my dad. And for 25 years now, they have been fighting. And I have been telling her, 'Talk to each other. When you guys were going to have sex you didn't tell us. Now that we are here, you guys say you are not talking,” he said.

Shatta Wale explained that because his father had been a guiding influence in his life, he was closer to him.

"Because my dad has been like a teacher in my life, I am closer to him. And my mum feels like I was on his side. So she decided to do some acting," he said.

The dancehall star flatly denied the neglect story, insisting that he had repeatedly provided for his mother financially and materially over the years, including buying her multiple cars and renting accommodation for her.

"I have bought several cars for her. I have given her money so many times. We rented a house for her that I wanted to later buy. Sammy Flex took her there but it was chaos," he said.

The controversy has been a recurring one. Madam Elsie Avemegah first went public in 2022 when she revealed being evicted from her home after six years, and later disclosed deteriorating health conditions including severe hypertension.

Shatta Wale had previously defended himself by citing gestures such as buying his mother four cars and renting a home for her. in an upscale Accra neighbourhood.
