Ghanaian rap icon Sarkodie has announced that he is making a full return to signing and developing artistes, revealing that a new label partnership is in the works.

Speaking in an interview with BTM Africa, the multiple award-winning rapper opened up about why he stepped back from signing artistes in recent years, describing the weight that comes with taking on young talent in the Ghanaian context.

"When you sign an artiste, you're technically almost responsible for their life. It's not supposed to be that, but that's what it is, especially where we are from in Ghana. It's difficult because you want the best for the artiste. And when people have someone to blame, everything that happens in their personal life has to be you," he said.

Despite the challenges, Sarkodie said the fulfilment he derives from discovering and elevating talent is what is drawing him back.

"I get fulfilled when I'm able to see something and bring it to light. So signing artistes, I moved away from it because of how fully I have to be involved. But we just entered into a new partnership, and we're about to start a full label service again, like how we did with Sarkcess Music," he revealed.

The rapper confirmed he already has his eye on a number of potential signees but is keeping their identities close to his chest until the business arrangements are in place.

"Yes, we're still looking for talent. I have my eyes on a few, but I'm not going to mention them until we're able to get them involved and then have the business side sorted. So yes, I'm coming back fully to have artistes and then invest in them and get them to wherever they have to get to," he said.
