Former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo has hit back at claims that the burial arrangements for her late father, Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, have been cancelled.
She has insisted that the funeral will proceed as planned on July 30, 3026.
"On the 30th of July, we will go to Gomoa Mpota to bury my late father. On the 31st of July, we will be at Independence Square to hold the funeral service. Then, on the 8th of August, we will travel to Asante
“Mampong in Kumasi for the thanksgiving service. So everyone should disregard the rumours that the funeral will not take place or that it has been cancelled," she rejected claims made by her brother, Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena I, Head of the Safo family.
She added that arrangements had been finalised after consultations with key stakeholders including Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
But Adwoa Safo reserved her sharpest words for what she described as a deliberate attempt to sideline her after she had already done the heavy lifting financially for the funeral.
"He told one of the elders to tell me that he will take care of the funeral, so I should excuse myself from it. Whatever money I've put into it, I will be settled later," she said, adding that her lawyers were subsequently informed that the family would decide what they wanted to repay and what they did not.
She added, “Not a single penny was given to assist me.”
Adwoa Safo also took a swipe at her brother's public tribute during the national cleanup exercise, questioning whether he had any idea of the cost and effort that went into erecting a tribute billboard for their late father.
"The time the government declared the cleanup exercise, my brother went to a billboard to say he was paying respect. Does he have any idea as to how the billboard came up or the cost that went into it?" she asked.
She further alleged that her brother had failed to proceed with an earlier funeral date set for June 25, which she said led to the current arrangements.
"He says he's calling off my funeral plans. He didn't even contribute a single penny when I was doing the rites alone. I thought he would be responsible for once in his life and come to me and compensate me directly," she said.
In a separate disclosure, Adwoa Safo revealed that she has undergone successful surgery following gunshot injuries she sustained during the coronation of Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena I.
