Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, has stated that he has no regrets about his heated confrontation with media personality Ola Michael on live television, insisting that he would react the same way if faced with a similar situation again.
Speaking in an interview on Neat FM, A-Plus defended his conduct during the July 5, 2026, edition of United Showbiz, arguing that the programme was meant to protect and promote the interests of Ghana’s creative arts industry rather than divert attention to unrelated matters.
According to him, the discussion on the show that night centred on concerns that someone was attempting to undermine the importance of the entertainment industry and disrespect those who work within it.
He said it was, therefore, inappropriate for Ola Michael to interrupt the conversation by raising screenshots from a past incident instead of contributing to the main discussion.
'You are senseless' - A Plus confronts Ola Michael on live TV over flood debate
“United Showbiz is a platform for showbiz, where stakeholders in the industry come together. If we are seated there discussing how someone is trying to downplay our importance and disrespect us, and the purpose of the platform is to defend the arts, then you want to rubbish all of that by saying, ‘Three months ago, I saw something, and I want to question you about it,’ you’re a fool,” A-Plus said.
The Gomoa Central MP maintained that he was proud of how he handled the situation and stressed that he would not hesitate to respond in the same manner if a similar circumstance spring up again.
“I am proud of what I did, and I will do it again at any opportunity I get,” he noted.
A-Plus explained that he is willing to accept responsibility whenever he is wrong, but believes he should also acknowledge himself when he believes he has acted appropriately.
“If I do something wrong, I will admit that it wasn’t right. I’m human, and I will apologise. But if I do something right, I will praise myself,” he said.
He further disclosed that the incident left him feeling satisfied because he believed he had defended the interests of the creative arts industry.
“In my life, I haven’t been as excited as I was on that Saturday when I appeared on United Showbiz. I was so excited that on my way home, I was playing music,” he noted.
A-Plus also warned that he would continue to challenge anyone he believes attempts to belittle Ghana’s creative arts sector or disrespect those working within it.
“Any day someone tries to disrespect those of us in the industry or downplay the importance of the industry, I will come for that person,” he added.
A-Plus also expressed concern about what he described as the lack of unity within Ghana’s creative arts industry.
He contrasted the entertainment sector with other industries, saying many sectors are able to unite and pursue common goals, whereas divisions within the creative space continue to hinder its growth and organisation.
The confrontation between A-Plus and Ola Michael occurred during the July 5, 2026, edition of United Showbiz.
The discussion centred on Ghana’s recurring flooding challenges after a resident from Gomoa reportedly argued that, as the Member of Parliament for the area, A-Plus should focus less on entertainment-related issues and pay more attention to providing drainage infrastructure in his constituency.
During the discussion, Ola Michael attempted to read comments and reactions to a statement A-Plus had shared on his Facebook timeline.
He sought to establish whether the MP had insulted the resident for appearing to downplay the importance of the creative industry and to examine how people had responded to the issue online.
However, A-Plus took issue with Ola Michael’s approach, arguing that the move shifted attention away from the main conversation about the respect and recognition of the creative arts industry.
He consequently described Ola Michael as “senseless” for attempting to introduce what he considered a distraction rather than contributing to the discussion at hand.
