Ghanaian actor and New Patriotic Party (NPP) advocate, Prince David Osei, has added his voice to calls for the release of NPP communicator Dennis Miracles Aboagye following his arrest by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
He warned that the manner in which state institutions are being used by the current government risks eroding public confidence in Ghana's democracy.
In a post on his X handle on July 13, 2026, the actor lamented that the principles of due process and constitutional governance were being undermined.
"Public confidence in institutions can be shaken when citizens question the fairness, openness, and constitutionality of government actions.
“Democracy suffers when fear, intimidation, and threats are used to control. It's essential to uphold due process, no matter the issue," he wrote.
BREAKING: Miracles Aboagye under investgation over GH¢55m theft, money laundering - EOC
Dennis Miracles Aboagye is a prominent NPP communicator and spokesperson for former Vice President and NPP flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who has been vocal in his criticism of the Mahama government since the party lost the 2024 general elections.
According to an official statement from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) dated Monday, July 13, 2026, Aboagye is under investigation over the alleged misappropriation, misapplication, diversion, and theft of public funds amounting to about GH¢55 million.
EOCO stated that the investigation and his arrest are connected to his tenure as the former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCOD).
It said investigations into Miracles Aboagye began after it received a petition from the current Executive Secretary of IMCCoD, the institution where he served as former Executive Secretary, requesting further probes into a forensic audit conducted on the secretariat covering the period from 2022 to 2025.
Meanwhile, the NPP has demanded the immediate release of the communicator.
