Baaba Cann says Abu Trica voluntarily gave statements that could be used against him

Media personality Baaba Cann has criticised calls for sympathy for Ghanaian social media personality Abu Trica following his arrest, insisting that having children should not be used as a basis to seek public or government intervention.

Speaking during a discussion with broadcaster Ola Michael on Neat FM on July 12, 2026, Baaba Cann argued that every individual is responsible for their actions and must face the consequences if found guilty of wrongdoing.

According to her, appeals by Abu Trica's baby mama for the government to intervene because he has children are misplaced.

"This whole thing about us having mercy on Abu Trica, the government should step in, the baby mama saying he has children looks some way to me. Don't I also have children? Can't I also decide to defraud people because I want to take care of my children?" she questioned.

Baaba Cann also defended media personality Captain Smart over the interview he conducted with Abu Trica, dismissing claims that the interview was forced on him.

Referring to the interview, she mentioned that Abu Trica voluntarily agreed to appear and answer questions.

"Captain Smart's interview he did with him, did he put a gun to his head? No presenter will force you to leave your house with police officers to grant an interview. When they call for an interview and you feel like you shouldn't go, you should be able to tell them you won't go," she stated.

She further argued that Abu Trica could have declined to answer questions during the interview if he believed his responses could have legal implications.

"When you're asked a question and you don't want to answer, just don't answer. You decided to answer all the questions that were asked and you admitted that you received part of the fraud money," she shared.

Baaba Cann maintained that receiving any portion of proceeds from an alleged fraud is still a serious offence, regardless of the amount involved.

"It's still fraud even if you received just one dollar, so you can't say that the money you received was little. When someone steals, the person needs to be punished," she added.
