As part of the national general clean-up exercise declared by President John Dramani Mahama to improve environmental sanitation, stakeholders in Ghana’s movie industry took to the streets to support the initiative by helping clean markets and other public spaces.

On the second day of the exercise, held on July 11, 2026, Chief Executive Officer of the Regal Film Festival and Awards (REFFA Awards), Selassie Ibrahim, mobilised several stakeholders within the film industry to participate in the national campaign.

Among those who joined the exercise were Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority, Kafui Danku-Pitcher; veteran actor Adjetey Anang; actress Roselyn Ngissah; actor-turned-politician John Dumelo; and several other industry players.

In a video shared by Tina News, actress Gloria Sarfo was also seen participating in the clean-up exercise. She expressed her commitment to the initiative, saying she was ready to get herself dirty for Ghana’s sake.

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, led the movie personalities from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) office to the streets of Agbogbloshie Market, where they actively participated in the exercise.

Selassie Ibrahim and Kafui Danku-Pitcher were seen desilting gutters, while other actors and filmmakers swept the streets and cleared debris from the market.

The government declared Friday, July 10, and Saturday, July 11, 2026, as national general cleaning days in the seven regions affected by the recent floods as part of efforts to reduce the risk of further flooding ahead of the expected heavy rains.

Day one of the exercise recorded strong public participation, with individuals and organisations coming out in large numbers to support the initiative.

The directive forms part of measures adopted by the Post-Flood Mitigation Committee to improve environmental sanitation by clearing drains and other waterways.

Held under the theme, “Our Actions, Our Future: Cleaning Ghana After the Floods,” the two-day exercise was aimed at mobilising residents to clean their communities, improve sanitation and help prevent future flooding.
