Mavin Records founder and renowned music executive Don Jazzy has urged up-and-coming music producers to stop waiting for established stars and instead focus on developing emerging artistes with whom they can grow.

Speaking during a recent podcast with entertainment journalist Joey Akan, Don Jazzy mentioned that many young producers are unwilling to build careers from the ground up because they prefer working with already successful musicians.

According to him, he has observed the same mindset even among some producers within Mavin Records, who would rather wait for opportunities to produce for superstar artistes like Rema than collaborate with new talents in the label's academy.

"I think most of the producers that we have today, maybe they're just looking for a made artiste. The producers I even have in-house, at times, they don't want to work with some of the artistes I have in my academy. They will be waiting for Rema. If you're waiting for Rema, then you're wasting your energy," he said.

Don Jazzy explained that unknown producers and upcoming artistes should work together, develop their skills collectively, and build successful careers instead of chasing already established names.

"Why not actually focus on the ones in the academy so that they can grow together from there? Both the artistes and the producers are unknown, so they should collaborate so that they can grow, but no, they want the popular artistes to work with," he stated.

The veteran producer also noted that aspiring producers now have access to countless online resources, making it much easier to learn music production than when he started his career.

According to him, unlike in the early days when producers had limited opportunities to acquire knowledge, today's generation can easily sharpen their skills through educational content available on social media and other digital platforms.

"Now, it's even easier because you can learn on the job. When we started, we didn't know plenty of things. Now, there are a lot of learning materials that you can grab from social media and do something for yourself," he shared.

Don Jazzy further stressed that success in the music industry often comes from patience and consistency rather than chasing quick opportunities.

He revealed that his own journey began by growing alongside an artiste before gradually expanding his team and bringing more people into the fold.

"The problem is they don't want to build from scratch. My route might not be anybody's route. I started with someone, and we grew together. As we got to a point where we felt like we could get more people inside, we let them join, and that's how we did it," he added.
