Ghanaian filmmaker Pascal Amanfo has publicly responded to actress and fashion icon Nana Akua Addo over comments she made regarding Yvonne Nelson’s involvement in a movie produced years ago.

In a strongly worded message shared on social media, Pascal Amanfo began by acknowledging Nana Akua Addo’s contribution to Ghana’s fashion and entertainment industry, praising her for elevating celebrity red carpet fashion.

“I totally root for you and all you’ve achieved when it comes to putting Ghana on the map and redefining, to a large extent, celebrity red carpet fashion. Kudos. No one, I repeat, no one can take that away from you,” he stated.

However, the filmmaker criticised her for allegedly claiming that she had secured Yvonne Nelson for the cast of a film she produced, describing the claim as misleading.

“While responding to certain commenters, you were sharing the poster of a movie I directed, a movie you produced years ago that had Yvonne Nelson as part of the cast, and you were slightly insinuated that, after all, you had Yvonne as part of your movie. Now, I think that’s highly unnecessary and a bit of an ego drive because it’s a distortion of the truth,” he said.

Pascal Amanfo went on to reveal that securing Yvonne Nelson’s appearance in the movie was not an easy task, explaining that Nana Akua Addo did not have a personal or professional relationship with the actress at the time.

“You wanted Yvonne Nelson to be part of that movie. You had no personal or professional access to Yvonne Nelson. Prince David and I begged, underline the word begged, Yvonne Nelson to be part of that movie,” he disclosed.

According to him, Yvonne Nelson initially turned down the role because she was selective about the projects she associated herself with at the time.

“She did not want to do that movie. In conjunction with Shangai and Edmund Kwasi, who was the production manager, we begged Yvonne Nelson to do that movie,” he added.

Despite the disagreement, Pascal Amanfo reiterated his respect for Nana Akua Addo’s achievements but urged her to also respect the legacy of others who had established themselves before her.

“No one can take away from you the brand you have built. Nana Akua Addo is a brand. Yvonne Nelson is a brand. Those are two lines that don’t really need to meet or cross. While we respect you for the brand you are building, you must also respect those who came before you,” he concluded.

His comments have since sparked discussions on social media, with many users debating the relationship between Ghana’s fashion and movie industries as well as the need for mutual respect among public figures.
