Ghanaian actress and entrepreneur Fella Makafui has expressed immense gratitude after emerging as the winner of the Lead Actress in a Drama or Comedy Series category at the Ghana TV Awards for her role in the Netflix series Anikulapo.

The actress took to social media to celebrate the milestone, sharing a photo of her award plaque and thanking her fans, supporters, and everyone who contributed to her success.

“God did. Lead Actress in a Drama or Comedy Series at the Ghana TV Awards for Anikulapo (Netflix). Thank you for every vote, every prayer, and every word of encouragement along the way,” she wrote.

Fella’s victory marks another significant achievement in her acting career, with many fans and colleagues congratulating her for her remarkable performance in the popular series.

A few months ago, Fella Makafui opened up about her journey to landing a role in the popular Netflix-Nigerian series Anikulapo: The Ghoul Awakens and the challenges she faced, especially having to learn the Yoruba language, which she had no prior knowledge of.

In a lengthy social media post, the actress recounted how she received a call from Mr. Quashigah, who informed her that a woman named Juliet Asante wanted to speak to her about a gig.

“Somewhere in 2024, I got a call from Mr. Quashigah saying a woman named Juliet Asante wanted to speak to me about a gig. A few minutes later she called, she said I’m pushing for Ghana to be part of ANIKULAPO, and I believe you can absolutely kill this role,” she wrote.

She continued in her post, expressing how unbelievable the opportunity felt.

“At first I thought I was dreaming. This was someone I had never met or spoken to before. I was shocked especially because I’ve always wanted to work with Mr. Kunle. I even sent him a DM years ago (which he obviously didn’t see),” she said.

Fella further revealed that when Mr. Kunle called her and informed her that she would be speaking Yoroba, she was initially scared but accepted the challenge.

“The only thing she said was I know you can do it. They will call you. Make proud. It was a very brief conversation, but it meant everything. A few days later, I got a call from Mr. Kunle himself. He said, you’ll be speaking Yoroba. My heart skipped for a second because I have never even said ‘the’ in Yoroba before, but I responded yes sir, I can do it,” she added.

The actress explained that she was assigned a coach and had to dedicate herself to learning the language, admitting that it was one of the toughest challenges of her career.

“They got me a coach, and we started lessons. I almost gave up because wow… the language was HARD. I woke up at dawn, constantly asking my coach for voice notes, listening to them everywhere I went. Literally everywhere.

“I told myself this had to be the most challenging role I’ve ever taken on but this was exactly the kind of challenge I wanted,” she explained.

Her determination eventually paid off as she successfully starred in the series, earning praise from audiences across Africa and further establishing herself as a formidable actress in the industry.
