Popular Kumawood actor Oboy Salinko has announced his intention to contest for a parliamentary seat again, this time on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The popular comic actor, born Abraham Kofi Davis, made the declaration on Fakye TV's ‘Fakye Showbiz’ on May 23, 2026, saying he had accumulated enough personal wealth to now focus on public service and was ready to bring real development to his constituents.
He also took aim at the current crop of MPs, whom he accuses of embezzling public funds while their constituents lack basic amenities.
"When you speak the truth, they claim you are disrespectful. They are embezzling public funds! We have to enter and make things right. God has blessed me. If I stand and you don't vote for me, no problem, I just wanted to help you. So very soon, people would be calling me their MP, either in Atwima Kwanwoma or Old Tafo," he said.
This would not be Salinko's first attempt at electoral politics. He first contested the Atwima Kwanwoma seat in the 2016 general elections on the ticket of the Progressive People's Party (PPP) an experience he now describes as a test run.
Kumawood star Salinko loses out on Parliamentary bid
“The first one, I had about 1800 votes, so it showed that I had what it took. So it taught me that it was about the numbers. I even had calls from the NPP and the NDC,” he noted.
This time, he says, he is targeting one of the two major parties, with a strong lean towards the NPP.
"I would not run as an independent; I have to test myself in one of the major parties. I had a dream that a delegate from one of Ghana's largest parties, which mainly draws its support from the Ashanti Region, encouraged me to run and said they would all vote for me. I have bigger ambitions, but I want to first run for MP. When I get selected. Then I know that I can go higher. But for now, I want to check how the atmosphere is," he said.
Both constituencies currently have sitting MPs, Vincent Ekow Assafuah holds the Old Tafo seat, while Kofi Amankwa-Manu Esq represents Atwima Kwanwoma.
