Y107.9FM, Ghana’s leading youth and urban radio station, has successfully concluded its week-long Mother’s Day celebration with an exciting and vibrant Cookout Competition held at Legon City Mall on Saturday, May 9, 2026.
The event brought together families, supporters, and competing teams in a colourful atmosphere filled with music, laughter, engaging activities, and the rich aroma of delicious meals prepared by participating mothers and women’s groups.
The cookout competition featured several participating teams, including CFCI Women, CFCI Young Ladies, SA Ladies, Wemompreneurs, Secret Billions and Legon City Mall, all of whom showcased exceptional culinary creativity, teamwork, and community spirit throughout the competition.
After an impressive display of cooking skills and presentation, Wemompreneurs emerged victorious, beating all competing teams to claim the ultimate prize as champions of the YFM Mother’s Day Cookout Competition.
The Mother’s Day Cookout served as the grand finale of a week-long celebration curated by YFM to honour mothers and strengthen family and community bonds. Activities throughout the week included storytelling sessions and a Community Impact Segment in partnership with NGO Street Aid aimed at supporting teenage mothers.
YFM also facilitated impactful discussions where participants openly shared personal experiences and challenges relating to education, stigma, finances, and mental health, inspiring responsible decision-making and meaningful conversations among young listeners.

The climax event at Legon City Mall transformed the venue into a lively family gathering as participants prepared a variety of meals while supporters cheered enthusiastically. Beyond the competition, the event created a warm and memorable atmosphere that celebrated motherhood, resilience, unity, and love.
At the end of the competition, all participating teams received prizes and recognition for their efforts, while outstanding performers were honoured with special awards celebrating creativity, presentation, teamwork, and overall excellence from sponsors and partners.
Speaking at the event, Director of Global Media Alliance Broadcasting Company (GMABC), Timothy Karikari, noted that the initiative was designed to celebrate mothers in a relatable and impactful way.
“Our vision was to celebrate mothers in a way that genuinely connects with people and reflects the important role they play in our lives every day. The cookout and the week-long activities reminded us of the strength, sacrifice, resilience, and love mothers bring to families and communities,” he stated.
The successful celebration once again demonstrated YFM’s commitment to community engagement, family-oriented programming, and initiatives that positively impact society while creating memorable experiences for its audience.
The Mother’s Day Cookout was powered by YFM Ghana with sponsorship support from Guinness, Munchee, Ginny, GC Royal Hotel, Kepas/Bristol, Eddy’s Pizza, Aladdin Snacks, Purity Paws, Family Tomato Mix, Kojach Pharmacy and Dr. Teal’s.
