Ghanaian musician and entertainment pundit Mimi has urged organisers of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs) to be more intentional in how they invite celebrities to the event’s red carpet.
According to her, simply sending out invitations is not enough to attract high-profile personalities who can elevate the glamour and prestige of the red carpet.
Speaking during a discussion on Onua Show Time, Mimi suggested that organisers should create attractive invitation packages that make celebrities feel valued and appreciated.
“Next time, TGMA should invite red carpet-worthy celebrities to the red carpet. There are people we all know in the industry that would give us good name on the red carpet, but they weren’t invited,” she said.
She proposed that the packages could include complimentary hotel accommodation for up to three days after the event, massage therapy sessions, and even fabrics as part of the gesture.
“The celebrities are grown and they have a certain status. You can’t just send them an invite. They can do a nice package, add some things, maybe three days stay at a hotel after the show, a massage therapy and other nice things for the celebrities to unveil the package. That’s a proper invitation to a proper celebrity,” she explained.
Mimi noted that many celebrities are willing to spend heavily on their appearance, but the manner in which they are invited often influences whether they choose to attend.
“Wouldn’t they show up all glamorous if this is done? It’s not that they cannot afford to spend huge amount of money to show up well on the red carpet, but it's how you invite them,” she stated.

She also encouraged the organisers, Charterhouse Productions, to seek sponsorship if funding is a challenge.
She stressed the need for the organisers to be deliberate about the personalities they invite, especially those who are likely to adhere to the event’s theme and contribute positively to the visual appeal of the red carpet.
“TGMA can get sponsors if they can’t do it alone. Then they will put some nice fabrics in the package. It doesn’t necessarily mean that they will wear the fabric but it's nice. At least you’ve met them halfway. All these must be looked at. They should be intentional about the celebrities they invite,” she shared.
Mimi further suggested that celebrities who disregard the event’s fashion theme should not be allowed to participate in the red carpet.
“People who are expected to go by the theme and they fail to do so shouldn’t show up on the red carpet,” she said.
She also reminded Charterhouse that the awards scheme has grown beyond being just a private business and now belongs to all stakeholders in the entertainment industry.
“Charterhouse should notice this. The award scheme might be your business, but it has now become the stakeholders’ own. We have a voice in it, so let’s take care of it and control the narrative. They can control the pictures that will go online to create that vibe for us,” she added.
