'I kept my family private' - Ebi Bright's old video on privacy goes viral

A throwback video of Tema Metropolitan Assembly Mayor, Ebi Bright, speaking about her deliberate decision to keep her marriage and children away from public life has resurfaced online.

This follows the revelation that she is married to the Majority Chief Whip in Parliament, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor.

In the viral video, Ebi Bright, speaking at the Youth Development Summit of the National Service Personnel Association (NASPA) Tema Metro in August 2025, explained why she chose to draw a firm line between her public profile and private life.

“I determined that my marriage and my family, my children, were paramount. And I did not have what it took to protect my family if I thrust them into the public space. So I kept my marriage private. I kept my children private,” she said.

The Tema Mayor acknowledged that keeping a low personal profile may have slowed her public rise but insisted the cost was one she was prepared to accept.

“I might have taken the long route to get to where I am. But you have to know what you are gaining alongside. For me, I protected my family. I protected my dignity. So it might have taken me longer, but I was ready to be patient and pay the price to arrive at my destination and beyond,” she said.

Bright used her story as a lesson for women navigating public life, urging young women to decide early on what they stand for and what price they are willing to pay to achieve their goals.

“As a woman, you have to decide early on: are you a slay queen, or are you going to be leading the space with your mind and with your thoughts? What price is too big for what you want?” she said.
