Ghanaian Afrobeats artiste, Kojo Blak has shot down claims that secular artistes operate outside of faith, noting that he prays in tongues before going to the studio.
Speaking in an interview with Hitz FM, the 2026 TGMA Best New Artiste of the Year winner noted that the practice was something few people around him were even aware of, describing it as a quiet but consistent part of how he prepares to make music.
“Me being secular doesn’t mean I belong to the devil, because the person doing the song is actually inspired by the Holy Spirit. Let me say one thing. Before I make any song in the studio, a few of my friends know this. I go out and I pray. Sometimes I even speak in tongues,” he said.

He recounted an incident where he arrived at a recording session but had completely lost his voice.
“Even my speaking voice was not clear. But I went out, I prayed and I came down. It became one of the best Afro R&B songs I have done,” he said.
He added that his spiritual preparation extends beyond the studio, revealing that he sometimes fasts before releasing songs as well.
“I pray even before I release songs. Sometimes fast. I do those spiritual exercises to back what I'm doing,” he added.
