Rapper Kwesi Arthur has spoken about his highly publicised dispute with Ground Up Chale, revealing that signing a contract without proper legal guidance while young and inexperienced was at the heart of the ordeal.

Speaking in an interview with broadcaster Kafui Dey on his YouTube channel, the ‘Grind Day’ hitmaker said the situation taught him the importance of patience and due diligence when entering industry agreements.

"I signed an agreement when I was quite young. I didn't understand certain things. I was young and hungry and didn't have the right legal counsel around me," he said.

Kwesi Arthur disclosed that by the time the dispute became public, he had endured the emotional toll privately for some time, describing his decision to go public as a deliberate move to put a stop to what was happening behind the scenes.

“Like I'd already gone through the process and like the emotional toll and everything for a long time. You know, so I feel like with me putting that out there.

“I feel like that was just me trying to put a stop to certain things that were going on behind the scenes,” he noted.

He however refused to delve further into the issue, noting that the case is now before the courts.

Beyond his personal experience, Kwesi Arthur said he hopes his story serves as a cautionary tale for up-and-coming artistes, and called for favourable contract practices Ghana's music industry.

"I want to use my voice and my story as a lesson for other artistes and stakeholders in the industry, to preach for fairness.

“And for other artistes who are coming after me and are off my standing as well to seek the right legal counsel when going into anything as such," he said.
