Ghanaian highlife singer and songwriter Kuami Eugene has opened up about one of the darkest phases of his life, revealing how he lost almost everything and everyone he loved within a short period.
Speaking in a recent interview with Anita Akuffo, the “Angela” hitmaker recounted how, within the span of two years, he lost both his grandmother and father, two people he was deeply attached to.
According to him, the pain became even worse after he was involved in a near-fatal accident that left him hospitalized for four months.

“There was a period in my life when I lost almost everything and a lot of important people around me. I lost my grandma, whom I was very, very close to, and then the following year I lost my dad, too. On top of that, there were family issues, and then I had the accident,” he recounted.
Kuami Eugene revealed that the only thing that kept him going during that difficult period was having enough money to cater to the many responsibilities and medical expenses that came with the tragedies.
“I thank God I had enough money when all these things happened because I had to travel home, bury my grandma, bury my dad, and also pay for surgeries and hospital bills. If I didn’t have money at the time, things would have been very bad,” he said.
The award-winning musician further explained that being hospitalized for four months meant he could not perform at shows or attend private events, which greatly affected his income.
“The same person taking care of all these responsibilities had to stay in the hospital for four months. And four months without shows means no income because that’s where I make my money,” he added.
He also revealed that the worst part was that, while battling to recover, he faced cruel and hateful comments on social media, with some people even claiming he had died.
“I had a lot of hate from social media instead of people to support me. There were comments like ‘I bet Kuami Eugene is dead now, what they are showing is a video of passing, that is his corpse. Why do you think he’s not out there anymore? He’s dead, his family just doesn’t want to tell us about it’. That is the darkest thing that has happened to me since I became Kuami Eugene,” she recounted
