Ghanaian rapper Medikal has reacted to Black Sherif winning the Artiste of the Year at the 2026 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs).

According to him, the victory is “not far-fetched” because he believes he contributed to the young artiste’s journey.

Speaking in an interview with Nana Romeo on OKFM, Medikal explained that he sees similarities between the messages Black Sherif communicates in his music and the kind of message he also pushes through his own songs.

According to him, Black Sherif used to listen to and enjoy his music long before becoming mainstream, adding that he recently came across an old video of the award-winning musician expressing interest in collaborating with him (Medikal) while he was still an underground artiste.

“I no see the video when he did it. I saw it after he came into the limelight. He wanted a collaboration, and I mean Blacko being a fan of my music is not far fetched, he’s also saying the same thing I'm saying in my music, so I'm happy he won the award,” Medikal said in a mix of pidgin and English

The rapper clarified that his comments were centered on the influence he believes he has had on Black Sherif’s career and growth as an artiste.

According to Medikal, who was also nominated in the same Artist of the Year category, Black Sherif’s win is something he takes pride in because he believes he played a role in inspiring the award-winning young musician.

Medikal further noted that it is inspiring to see young acts in the music industry eager to work with the older people they grew up admiring.

He added that seeing younger artistes rise through the ranks after being inspired by musicians they once looked up to is something he appreciates, insisting that Black Sherif’s Artist of the Year win is therefore “not far-fetched.”
