Ghanaian rapper Medikal has explained why he dedicated one of his awards at the 2026 edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards to his son, Space.

Speaking in an interview on Okay FM on May 14, 2026, Medikal said the decision was influenced by the song that was playing as he walked to the stage to receive the award.

According to the rapper, his hit song “Fully Active” was inspired by his son, Space, whose energetic nature and sleeping habits served as the basis for the track.

“When I was going for the award, one of my songs was being played in the background and that was ‘Fully Active’. I made that song because my son doesn’t sleep. He’s always active and whenever he hears a little sound, he wakes up. That’s what inspired me to record that song,” he stated.

Medikal noted that hearing the song at that moment reminded him of the inspiration behind it, prompting him to dedicate the award to his son.

“When I heard the DJ playing the song when I was going for the award, I remembered I recorded it because of my son. That’s why I dedicated it to my son Space,” he explained.

Addressing claims that he favours Space over his daughter, Island, Medikal dismissed the notion and stressed that he loves both of his children equally.

“When it comes to Island, I’ve done a whole album for Island. I can’t say I love Space more than Island. They’re my children, so I love both of them equally,” he shared.

The rapper added that people often overanalyze his actions and try to attach meanings where none exist.

“People like to talk a lot and they always want to read meanings into things,” he added.
