Just when Ghanaians thought issues surrounding the late Daddy Lumba had finally been settled, the family of the late legendary musician has once again appeared in court.
It is worth recalling that before the late musician's burial, several controversies arose over the legitimacy of Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu as the family head of the Ekuona family.
Daddy Lumba's family removes Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu as family head
During the dispute, Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu was reportedly removed as head of the family and Abusuapanyin Kwabena Brefo was subsequently installed as the new family head.
Following these developments, the family appeared before an Accra High Court on May 14, 2026, where the court ruled that the newly installed family head, Kwabena Brefo, should be added as a defendant in the ongoing case.
According to the court, Kofi Owusu can no longer present himself as the family head following his removal.
“We filed a case at the court to include Abusuapanyin Kwabena Brefo in the matter at the High Court because he is now the legitimate family head. Yesterday, around 5 PM, lawyers for Kofi Owusu filed affidavits in opposition. Although the affidavits arrived late, we decided to proceed to court.

“After appearing in court today, the court ruled that Abusuapanyin Kwabena Brefo is now the fifth defendant. The court has therefore ordered Kofi Owusu and his lawyers to amend the writ and include Kwabena Brefo in the case,” he said.
Counsel for Akosua Serwaa further noted that the case has been adjourned to June 29, 2026.
“The case has been adjourned to June 29, 2026. We will appear before the court. Our main concern is that he has been removed as family head, so he no longer has the basis to present himself as such. We will wait until June 29, 2026, to file our defence,” he added.
