I would rather endure dumsor than be politically tagged for speaking - Efia Odo

Ghanaian socialite and media personality Efia Odo has shared her thoughts on the recent instability in electricity supply, popularly known as “Dumsor,” which continues to raise concerns among many Ghanaians.

Speaking on United Showbiz on UTV, Efia Odo explained that public figures like herself are often tagged as political whenever they speak on national issues, a situation she says usually discourages her from openly expressing her opinions.

According to her, she often chooses to endure such situations quietly to avoid unnecessary political backlash. However, she noted that the current electricity challenges are too serious to ignore, stressing that authorities must address them properly.

“A time came when I wanted to refrain from engaging in political conversations because when you say something, they tag you either NDC or NPP, and someone like me is easily tagged as political, so I don’t say anything. I just keep quiet and endure everything,” she stated

Efia Odo stated that if there are going to be power outages, the public deserves to be informed in advance so people can adequately prepare and know what to expect during the period. She emphasised that proper communication would help reduce frustration among citizens.

Using the United States as an example, she explained that citizens abroad are often notified in advance of major disruptions, giving them enough time to make preparations. She added that Ghana could adopt a similar approach in handling the ongoing electricity concerns.

“Let us know what’s the real reason umsor is happening because when we calculate the power, it doesn’t make sense. In America, when there’s an incident, you’re notified so you will know what to do; so the same thing should be happening here in Ghana. When the light is about to go off, we should be notified,” she insisted.

The socialite also expressed confidence that President John Dramani Mahama would not want his leadership efforts to be overshadowed by the ongoing power challenges. She therefore urged authorities to take swift action before the situation worsens further.

“I don’t think any politician would deliberately want to give themselves a bad name. Of everything President Mahama has done, I don’t think he intentionally wants dumsor to be a thing that brings him down. And if he doesn’t want it to bring him down, then they need to be honest,” she added.
