Nigerian musician, Banky W, has recounted how his love story with his wife, Adesua, began after he waited for over a year.
In a video making waves on X on May 2, 2026, the acclaimed musician revealed that his wife kept him in the friend zone for more than a year despite his repeated attempts to pursue a relationship.
According to Banky W, after several unsuccessful attempts, he went through a phase of disappointment and eventually turned to God for intervention.
“After one or two attempts that didn’t quite go my way, it seemed like she just wasn’t ready to be in a relationship with me. At first, I was like, ‘I’m not talking to her again.’ So I went through the whole process of grief.

“Then I said, ‘Okay, I’ll open my heart to a friendship with her.’ But we became even closer than we were before.
“I went to God and said, ‘Listen, I feel like this is my wife, the person I’m supposed to be with, but she just can’t see it.’ So I told God, ‘I’m not going to ask her again. Please tell her, and if she doesn’t believe it, let her hear from you and come back to tell me that we’re meant to be together. And if she doesn’t, I’ll never say it again,’” he said.
Banky W further shared how Adesua eventually accepted him during a phone call.
According to him, his wife was the one who expressed her readiness for the relationship.
“One day, I was lying in my bed, and she was at her place. We were on the phone because, at that point, we were talking all the time. And she said, ‘Banky, you know you’re my husband, right?’ And I said, ‘I’ve known for a year and a half. I’ve just been waiting for you to catch up,” he added.

“Adesua was actually the one who asked me to be her husband. She kept me in the friend zone for a long time, so I stopped pushing and simply prayed to God to touch her heart. After a year and a few months, she finally called me ‘my husband’—and that’s it”
