American gospel artiste Phil Thompson has opened up about one of the most difficult periods of his life, revealing that his 16-year marriage ended in a divorce he described as “felt like death.”

Speaking in an interview on Starr FM with Bola Ray on April 30, 2026, the singer shared how the aftermath of the divorce took a heavy emotional and legal toll on him.

He explained that he spent about three and a half years going back and forth to court in a bid to be present in the lives of his children.

According to Phil Thompson, he has four children with his ex-wife and there were periods when false claims were filed against him, which complicated the situation and prevented him from being with his children, something he described as deeply painful.

“I was married for 16 years and went through a divorce that felt like death. I had to go to court for three and a half years to fight to stay in my children’s lives. I have four children with my ex-wife, and the way they were dragged through it was excruciatingly painful.

“There were seasons when false claims were filed against me, and I wasn’t able to be in their lives,” he shared.

Also present during the interview was fellow gospel artiste Sonnie Badu, who spoke about a challenging moment from his own journey.

He disclosed that at the time he released his widely known song Baba, he was homeless in the UK as at that time.

“When I released my popular song, ‘Baba’ I was homeless in London,” Sonnie Badu shared.

Both artistes were on the show ahead of the upcoming Katon Praise, scheduled for May 1, 2026, at the Ghud Park, where they are expected to perform.
