Founder of International Pure Fire Chapel, Prophet Dr. Nana Abboh, has raised a concern about how the modern practice of monetary tithing has created a culture of discrimination within some churches.

According to him, some pastors allegedly use tithe records to profile and prioritise wealthier members in the church.

Speaking on United Showbiz on April 25, 2026, the pastor shared how the biblical versions of tithing was not limited to money but on other forms of income.

"Let's say you guys are my church members, if you are all paying tithes of ten percent, I can calculate everybody's monthly salary," he said.

He continued, "If one of you has a higher salary than the other, I am more likely to prioritise the person with the higher salary."

"That is why God in His infinite wisdom stated that tithe does not have to be just money, it could be farm produce or livestock or anything of value," he said.

He maintained that the shift to exclusively monetary tithing in modern church practice is the root of the discrimination problem, adding that the original concept was designed to prevent exactly the kind of issues now playing out in churches.
