Girls usually throw themselves at directors for movie roles – Kisa Gbekle

Ghanaian actress and film producer Kisa Gbekle has shared her views on the long-standing allegations of producers and directors demanding sexual favours in exchange for movie roles.

Speaking in an interview with Nana Romeo on Atuu on April 18, 2026, Kisa Gbekle mentioned that her journey into the movie industry was different from what many other actresses may have experienced.

According to her, she came into the industry through the Ghallywood school film system and was later introduced to film producer Abdul Salam Mumuni.

“I always say that the connection I entered the industry with is different. I came from Ghallywood school film, and my boss handed me over to Abdul Salam Mumuni. Abdul Salam’s boys know that I’m his daughter, so they never tried anything funny with me,” she said.

Kisa Gbekle explained that she worked closely with Abdul Salam Mumuni before eventually producing her own first movie.

She shared that she also worked with Venus Films during her early days in the industry.

She further alleged that some young women who visit production houses often go beyond auditions in an attempt to get close to directors and producers.

“I was working at Venus film. When some girls come to Venus films, they go about asking who would make them a star. Sometimes, they would come to me, tip me, and ask me to connect them with the boss,” she stated.

The actress said she does not entirely blame producers and directors who engage in sexual relationships with actresses in exchange for roles because, according to her, some of the women willingly pursue such arrangements.

“I don’t blame the producers and directors who sleep with girls for roles. The girls throw themselves at them. If you’re there for an audition, audition and go. Don’t come for the audition and be telling the director that you’re there so he’s supposed to notice you,” she noted.

According to Kisa Gbekle, when some actresses deliberately make themselves available to directors and producers, those men may take advantage of the situation.

“When you throw yourselves at them, they would also accept and sleep with you,” she added.
