I did not read political science to be a politician - Guru
Popular Ghanaian music artiste Guru has cleared the air about his political ambitions and why he read political science at the University of Ghana.
Speaking with Nana Romeo on the Atuu show, the “Lapaz Toyota” hitmaker said his decision to go back to school was due to his parents' insistence.
He said it has been a nagging topic they brought up time and time again, so he decided to do it to make them happy and also because he was bored with music.
“My parents wanted me to finish my education, but I jumped into doing music, so I was being hunted, and I hadn’t fulfilled my parents’ investment wishes. I was also noted to be doing music at a point, and that is what pushed me back to school,” he explained

Guru further elaborated that his initial course of study wasn’t Political Science and Information Studies but rather Information Technology.
“I went to Legon to study a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology. I went there because of IT. I switched to Political Science because UTAH went on strike, which delayed me for a few weeks, so that I couldn’t catch up with the rest of the class,” he explained.
Guru added that his contesting and winning of the SRC president was merely a practical form of studies, and also as a reference for his documents.
“Out of the political science, I realized I had to put my studies into action and later use it as my work reference of what I studied,” he maintained.
He also insisted that, currently, he has no political ambition, but when the time comes, he would be available.
