Ghanaian musician Richie Rhymes is enjoying a renewed wave of attention as his song “Na U Wossop,” featuring Oseikrom Sikanii, makes an unexpected comeback four years after its original release.
For Richie Rhymes, the song’s resurgence is both exciting and validating. According to him, while the renewed popularity feels amazing, it is not entirely surprising.
“It feels amazing, but not surprising,” he explained. “Everyone who heard the song loved it from the beginning. I knew we already had a masterpiece. I just felt I needed to wait for the right time to push my music.”
The artiste revealed that when the song was first released, he was focused on making English music in Ghana and believed the timing for heavily promoting the record was not ideal.
However, he always believed the song had the potential to reach a wider audience.
“Na U Wossop” was created shortly after Richie Rhymes collaborated with rapper Ypee on the song “Flex.” Hoping to maintain the momentum, he began working on another collaboration and immediately had Oseikrom Sikanii in mind.
Although he was not naturally inclined to creating vibey party songs, Richie Rhymes spent months developing a catchy hook that would be memorable and easy for listeners to sing along to.
“I wanted something with replay value,” he said. “When the song came out, people were greeting me with ‘Na U Wossop,’ and that was exactly the intention.”
Working alongside his producer On Dickson, the pair refined the beat until it matched the quality they envisioned. Once the production was ready, Richie Rhymes reached out to Oseikrom Sikanii, who quickly embraced the project and recorded his verse within a week.
The music video, directed by Cosmos Boakye, also became a highlight of the project. The visuals feature a cameo appearance from Ghanaian multiple award-winning musician Black Sherif, adding extra excitement for fans rediscovering the song.
Looking back, Richie Rhymes credits the success of the project to the collective effort of everyone involved, including his manager Spyno, producers On Dickson and Eric Syte, and the entire creative team.
As “Na U Wossop” gains fresh traction online, Richie Rhymes says the connection with Oseikrom Sikanii remains strong, with another collaboration already in the pipeline. With the song now reaching a wider audience, the artiste believes the moment he anticipated has finally arrived.
