The Head of Public Relations for BYK, Yaw Boadu-Ayeboafoh, has strongly defended why rapper Medikal deserves to be crowned Artiste of the Year.
He stated that the recognition is simply a reflection of the hard work the team has put in over the past year.
Speaking in a discussion with Elsie Lamar on GhanaWeb TV on April 3, Boadu-Ayeboafoh emphasised that consistency, strategic releases, and nationwide engagement have set Medikal apart from his peers.
According to him, the team remained focused and dedicated throughout the year, putting in continuous efforts to stay relevant in the music space.
“The most important thing for the team was working hard. We stayed consistent throughout the year; we did music back to back. We did a concert, played a lot of shows and we graced a lot of events as well,” he said.
He explained that the recognition Medikal is currently receiving from fans is not by chance, but rather a reward for the effort invested over time.
“This is just a reward for the work that we have done. It’s more like we’ve worked so hard so Ghanaians are celebrating us,” he shared.
Touching on conversations within the entertainment industry, Boadu-Ayeboafoh revealed that many discussions he has encountered strongly favor Medikal for the top award.
“So far, the only conversation I’ve heard was Medikal for Artiste of the Year. Kudos to the team and Medikal himself for working hard throughout the year,” he stated.
He further highlighted the challenges of being an independent artiste in Ghana, stressing that Medikal’s achievements are even more commendable considering the financial and logistical burdens that come with self-funding music projects.

“It’s not easy to be an artiste in Ghana, especially an independent artiste, where you finance your own music. We love the fact that Ghanaians are calling us `Artiste of the Year’ and we’re grateful,” he noted.
Outlining the milestones achieved within the year, Boadu-Ayeboafoh mentioned several key projects and performances that, in his view, justify Medikal’s position as a frontrunner.
He cited the release of “Welcome to Africa,” which he described as a piece that celebrates the African continent, as well as the popular track, “Shoulder,” which has gained significant traction at social events.
“I’m here to amplify what he’s done over the year and the reasons why he’s our AOTY. In the first quarter, we released Welcome to Africa, a beautiful piece that celebrated the African continent. We gave you guys 'Shoulder' and I’m sure when you go to any social event, it’s one of the songs on the playlist,” he said.
In addition to singles, he noted that Medikal delivered a full album and extended his reach beyond Accra by performing across all 16 regions of Ghana.
“We gave you guys an album and also, we didn’t stay in our zone. We played a lot of events across the 16 regions of Ghana and not just Accra,” he stressed.
One of the major highlights, he added, was Medikal’s headline event at the Accra Sports Stadium, which recorded a sold-out attendance.
“We hosted our own event at Accra Sports Stadium, which was sold out,” he said.
Boadu-Ayeboafoh maintained that based on consistency, output, and impact, Medikal stands out as the clear leader in the race for Artiste of the Year.
“Medikal has been the most consistent and every fact points to him as the leader,” he added.
