Ghanaian singer Feli Nuna has broken her silence on some disturbing instances of sexual harassment within Ghana's music and media industry, citing how the experiences forced her to take a break and reassess her career.
She revealed this in an interview with 3Music TV, where she disclosed that she was sexually harassed during a visit to an unnamed Accra media house in 2022, where she had gone to promote her single ‘BumBum’.
"I got sexually harassed when I went to one of the media houses in Accra for promotional engagements for my BumBum single. Someone I knew sexually harassed me," she said.
The singer expressed her disappointment over what she described as a culture that objectifies female artistes rather than acknowledging their talent and artistic contributions.
"I wasn't valued for my skills and efforts. It was more about what they could achieve from me sexually," she stated.
Feli Nuna also recounted another incident in the same year while promoting her song ‘Towel’, where she had a confrontation with some industry gatekeepers.
She revealed that at least three individuals openly suggested that sleeping with female artistes was acceptable within the industry.
"I had an altercation when I was promoting 'Towel' in 2022. I had three gatekeepers who told me it was okay to sleep with your female artiste because she's a woman," she disclosed.
The singer said the cumulative weight of these experiences prompted her to take a deliberate break from the industry to heal and refocus before making her return.
