Popular Ghanaian photographers Twinsdntbeg have asserted that artificial intelligence (AI) cannot completely wipe photographers out of business, despite its growing impact on the creative industry.
Speaking in an interview with GhanaWeb’s Elsie Lamar on Talkertainment, the twins explained that while AI has been useful, particularly in editing, it cannot fully replace the role of a photographer.
"When you think about it, it's quite interesting how you can take an old picture of yourself and just prompt it into AI, and it will give you all those options to choose from, but everybody can definitely identify an AI image, and that is one advantage we have." They said
They emphasised that photography goes beyond post-production. According to them, AI cannot physically capture real-life events, which remains a core part of the profession.
They noted that AI cannot go out on the field to shoot occasions such as festivals or events, stressing that such assignments will always depend on photographers who can interact with subjects, understand moments, and capture them creatively.
How Twinsdntbeg started photography
"Imagine Ghana movie awards or music awards or chalewate festival, then you'd prompt it in AI to give images, it's not possible, so we still need physical photographers with their camera to capture those moments, and AI sometimes helps correct certain errors in the photos. As in maybe there's an object or subject that you want AI to take out, that's how we as photographers use AI skills," they stated.
Twinsdntbeg concluded that their approach is to work in collaboration with AI, using it to enhance their output without compromising the essence of photography.
