Ghanaian photography duo Twindntbeg have opened up about the emotional aftermath of the 2024 general elections in Ghana, revealing how they and others were struck with grief at the residence of former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia following the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat.

Speaking in an interview with Elsie Lamar on Talkertainment on GhanaWeb, the duo disclosed the fateful day of the elections on December 7, 2024, and how the mood within the NPP camp quickly shifted from optimism to concern.

“We really thought that the NPP was going to win... That night that we lost the elections, I texted Salam Mustafa somewhere around 1 a.m. when the results were still coming in. I was like, ‘bro, what's happening?’ He was like ‘Charlie.”

“When he said ‘Charlie,’ I was like, ‘Our enemies have gotten us.’” They recounted.

They further revealed that the following day, party faithful gathered at Dr Bawumia’s residence ahead of the official concession, where the atmosphere was filled with grief.

“When we got there in the morning, it was all tears everywhere. People were crying and wailing,” they said.

However, amid the grief, Former Second Lady, Samira Bawumia, became a source of encouragement.

“When we saw Lady Samira Bawumia’s face, she was smiling. She was like ‘ah, you people, why are you crying?’ She hugged us.
“She gave us hope that there is more ahead, because you win and lose. It is a part of life,” the recalled.

Beyond the emotional account, the duo also reflected on factors they believe contributed to the NPP’s electoral loss.

“Some of the appointees weren't really responsive, especially to the grassroots people. Some of the promises that we made were off the roof. Some of the promises too, we weren't able to do them as a party,” they said.

Despite the setback, they expressed confidence that the party is already working to address its shortcomings and reposition itself for future elections.

“Right now, we are at a position where we are gradually warming back into winning the next elections,” they declared.
