Ghanaian filmmaker and NPP member, Socrate Safo, has spoken up about the painful lesson the 2024 general elections taught him about the people around him.

According to him, the NPP's defeat exposed the true nature of many who had presented themselves as loyal allies.

Speaking in an interview on Okay FM, the former Director for Creative Arts at the National Commission on Culture (NCC) reflected on how the atmosphere surrounding the NPP's campaign drew in a crowd of associates who seemed to be allies.

However, once the results were in and the party had lost power, they quickly left.

"The 2024 elections taught me something about people. There were a whole lot of people who were going up and down with us. But after the elections, we saw their true colours," he said.

He pointed to colleague Ola Michael as an example of someone whose loyalty he trusts because their relationship has defined boundaries.

"Someone like Ola Michael, I trust him because I know the limit I can go with him. There are things I can't tell him, and there are things he can't tell me," he explained.

"But those people who came to me like they were friends and were walking with us as if they could be confided in. But after the elections, I saw them for what they are,” he said.

The NPP suffered a decisive loss in the December 2024 general elections, with John Mahama and the NDC returning to power after a campaign largely dominated by economic discontent.
